an F-18 fighter crashed into a residential area in Virginia

A U.S. fighter jet F-18 crashed Friday in Virginia Beach (Virginia, United States) on a residential area, reported the U.S. Navy. Both crew members were able to eject, told AFP Lieutenant Commander Mike Kafka, a spokesman for the Navy.

At least one person on the ground was injured, according to CNN. Asked by AFP, the Naval Air Station Oceana, where the unit is based, and the local emergency services, were not immediately available.

The images broadcast on CNN showed a plume of smoke and the burning wreckage of the plane, which crashed in close proximity to buildings and dwellings. At least four buildings of short stature were on fire.
